Dreams United

About Me

My photo
I am Sara Hamza, a senior at Hume Fogg High School and part of the Senior Capstone program. I intern at Preston Taylor Ministries, an after school program for inner city children. For my project, I have created a program entitled Dreams United to connect each child at the Park Avenue site with someone who can help them further explore an area of his or her interest. I created this program with hopes that each child will take a simple interest and turn it into a hobby, which ultimately means putting his energy into a positive endeavor. This is important for these children because it is tough to counter the negative forces that they are immersed in due to their surroundings. If you are interested in helping, providing expertise in a child's area of interest, or if you have any questions please feel free to contact me at sarahamza@comcast.net

Ashanti

Ashanti is in the 4th grade and wants to go to college to become a beautician when she grows up. Right now, Ashanti wants to go to a beauty salon or beauty school for a day to see the inner workings of becoming a beautician.
Ashanti also likes to draw, play kickball, sing, and dance.

Antwanette

Antwanette is a third grader and aspires to be a pop singer. She idolizes Michael Jackson and Hannah Montana. Antwanette would like help in writing a song.
In her spare time, Antwanette likes to do cartwheels, jump rope, draw, swing, and play multiplication Bingo. Because her original life goal to meet Michael Jackson is not possible, she now wants to go to a Hannah Montana concert instead.

Adam

Adam is in the third grade and would like guidance in writing a rap. Adam is usually pretty easy to work with, but needs pushing and needs to be told that he can do better. His role model is Chris Brown.
Adam is a very loving kid. His other request was to be taken to the homeless shelter so that he can help the little kids without homes and be "a big supporter." Adam refused to call them homeless and is disturbed by the word because he believes that "everyone has a home somewhere." Adam is a sweet kid with good values, and is extremely insightful for his age.

Zachary

Zachary is an aspiring veterinarian, and I would like him to spend a day at a vet’s office or an animal shelter to learn more about animals and see the work that goes into taking care of them as a living. Zachary is an extremely sweet and loving kid. He wants to grow up to help people with cancer. He has a good heart, which is illustrated by the fact that he has a passion for helping people and animals. Zachary also likes to play football.

Quan

Quan is in the third grade and has a younger sister, Jamesha, also at PTM. Quan is very interested in music, always making a beat or rapping. I would like for him to sit down with a songwriter and learn the process of writing a song and hopefully eventually putting it to a beat and recording it.

Quan is extremely energetic. He needs someone with good discipline who can help him focus and put his creative energy into something positive. Quan also loves to wrestle and play football. His favorite artist is 50 cent. When he gets older, he wants to design video games.

Latrell

Latrell is 7 years old and has a twin, Chi-elle, who also attends PTM. He is interested in learning how to break dance to Michael Jackson music. Latrell can be shy and can get frustrated easily, but does well when he has one thing to focus on and to put his energy into. His younger brother, Jaheem, is also interested in learning how to break dance. Ideally, they will learn together, so if you are interested in working with Latrell please plan on teaching two.
Latrell also likes to play basketball, football, and hockey. He hopes that one day he will be able to go to Africa so that he can eat African food and to go to China. He also wants to learn how to cook.

Jaheem

Jaheem is in Kindergarten and has six brothers and sisters, three of which also attend PTM. Jaheem is interested in learning some break dancing moves. He is shy, so someone good with kids is needed for him. Someone who also has access to a dance space or studio would be very helpful. His older brother, Latrell, is also interested in learning how to break dance. Ideally, they will learn together, so if you are interested in working with Jaheem please plan on teaching two.
He is also a big fan of Michael Jackson, whom he calls his role model. His other hobbies are playing football, video games, and rapping. His other aspirations include learning how to cook.

Chi-elle

Chi-elle is 7 years old and is one of seven children. She has a twin brother named Latrell who also attends Preston Taylor Ministries. Chi-elle is an aspiring artist and would like help creating a painting. She is quiet and polite, and she takes a while to break out of her shell. She needs someone who has patients who can show her the process of creating a piece of art. Chi-elle also loves animals, especially cats and bears.
